When your teeth suffer decay and damage, it is our job to find ways to restore them to their full function and beauty. While many people think of crowns as being unattractive, the porcelain crowns that we offer blend right in with the natural tooth, leaving those around you none the wiser. They are also incredibly strong; the chance of a porcelain crown sustaining damage is incredibly slim. And unlike cosmetic treatments, most dental plans will cover porcelain crowns.
We place dental over the course of two separate visits. The first visit is when we will evaluate the tooth using x-rays so we can know exactly how much damage is present and can tailor our treatment to your needs.
During this visit, we will also undergo a color-matching process so we can ensure that the crown blends into the tooth we are correcting, as well as the surrounding teeth. After that, we shape and prepare the tooth for receiving the crown.
Once this is done, we can cast a mold of the tooth and the two adjacent teeth. We will send this mold to a lab so that a custom dental crown can be created for you. Before you leave our office during your first visit, we will fit you with a temporary acrylic crown so that you will retain tooth function while your custom crown is created.
Once your custom crown arrives at our office, you will come in for visit number two. The crown will be bonded to your tooth using a strong dental cement. Then we will shape and polish the crown so that it blends perfectly with the tooth, and you will be good to go.
